About Everybody to Kenmure Street

In May 2021, a UK Home Office dawn raid triggers one of the most spontaneous and successful acts of civil resistance in recent memory. In Pollokshields, Scotland's most diverse neighborhood, hundreds of residents rush to the streets to stop the deportation of their neighbors.

About the Guest

FELIPE BUSTOS SIERRA (Director/Producer)

Brando Benetton is an Italian filmmaker whose writing and directing work spans both Europe and the United States. While attending Ithaca College, he was named by Variety in 2015 as one of the nation's “110 Students to Watch” in film. He later earned his MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Over the course of his career, Benetton has directed award-winning TV pilots, feature films and large-scale live stunt shows for major European theme parks. Among his notable works is Nightfire, which he co-wrote, produced, and directed — a throwback spy thriller featuring an international cast led by Emmy nominee Dylan Baker. Filmed entirely in Italy, the project combines ambitious practical stunt work with a classic espionage sensibility. Following its nomination for Best Independent Pilot (Drama) at SeriesFest 2020, Nightfire premiered on Amazon Prime and Tubi.

Benetton recently made his feature directorial debut with The Girl in the River, starring Emmy winner Tiffany Haddish, Devon Sawa, Maggie Grace and Emmy nominee Ralph Macchio (Cobra Kai). The detective thriller will be released theatrically and on digital platforms on September 4, 2026, via Samuel Goldwyn Films. Drawn to character-driven genre storytelling, Benetton's work blends large-scale action and suspense with emotionally grounded human drama.

Director's Statement

I am the son of a Chilean exile. My early life was filled with stories of what was lost - countries, people, ideals. This film is an act of recovery, and about the quiet, invisible lines that connect one act of resistance to another, across time. As someone says on the day; “sometimes all you need to be is a link in the chain.”

The morning the van came, I stayed inside. My previous film, Nae Pasaran (2018), about solidarity for Scotland for Chile in the 1970s was streaming that week and people were making connections between that story and its attitudes and what was unfolding on their street. But I stayed in. I didn’t see the hope everyone on Kenmure Street did. These are the choices that haunt us: to go or to stay. To watch, or to act.

What I didn’t understand then, but what I came to understand slowly was that this wasn’t the usual script. I’ve always believed that the stories we tell ourselves are shaped as much by absence as presence. This film is made from fragments - of memory, of footage, of testimony. Some names are missing. Some voices are borrowed. Some images are grainy, hoovered up moments of real life, captured for the instant, not for posterity. But together they form something whole: a portrait of a community that didn’t wait for permission to do the right thing. In Everybody to Kenmure Street, I am not trying to explain. I am trying to remember, preserve and rebuild. It’s not a film with heroes, but with presence, with voices that echo through each other. It’s a film about being present, being in the street, being together, being human.

Check-In & Reservations

This program is open to all eligible individuals. The USC School of Cinematic Arts operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the University’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. This screening is free of charge and open to the public. A reservation confirmation will automatically be sent to your e-mail account upon successfully making an RSVP through this website. Doors will open at 6:30 P.M.

All SCA screenings are OVERBOOKED to ensure seating capacity in the theater, therefore seating is not guaranteed based on RSVPs. The RSVP list will be checked in on a first-come, first-served basis until the theater is full. Once the theater has reached capacity, we will no longer be able to admit guests, regardless of RSVP status.
