About the Class

Creating the Dramatic Television Series class will give students the initial push to develop the next great TV series. Students will learn to write a pilot by screening and analyzing sample pilots and discussing successful shows and prototypes.

Students will be exposed to the process of creating a new series with an appreciation of high-quality series concepts. Learn to choose and shape that series idea and what outlet is best for your show – network, cable, or streaming. Students will also get the fundamentals of writing scenes and structure.

Important note: Students will prepare an outline/treatment/show bible. A full pilot script will NOT be written in this class.

Course Objectives

The course will allow students to create their own series concepts, pitch them in class, and receive feedback as they move through the development stages, which include:

  • Create the “world” of your show.
  • Create the characters in your show.
  • Develop your show’s “story engine.”
  • Structure your series.
  • Basic screenwriting for scene exercises.

Students will come out with a short pilot treatment and/or show bible, ready to start writing their script.

Important Additional Information

  • All projects are created outside of scheduled class time.
  • All dates and times of the course are subject to change.
