About the Class
Ever wonder what it’s like behind the closed doors of a Comedy Sitcom writing room? Look no further! USC’s “The Writer’s Room: What it’s like to write for Sitcom Comedy Television” class gives you the knowledge and experience of working in a TV sitcom comedy writing room!
This class is specially designed for motivated students with strong interest in comedy screenwriting who desires to explore all steps necessary to complete a half-hour sitcom script. Students will write a script for an existing (still in production) half-hour television series during a concentrated six-week time frame.
It is recommended for students to have…:
- A background in screenwriting
- Experience in story structure
- Possess strong collaboration skills
- Establish strong characters
Because of the intensive nature of this course, the class will function as a sitcom writers’ room. In this way, both instructor and other students will be able to provide support, critical feedback, and ideas – all with the collective goal of helping each student complete their sitcom script by the end of the course.
*All projects are created outside of scheduled class time.*
