USC Finds Success in Park City

Braving the Park City cold, SCA alumni, staff and students attended both the Sundance and Slamdance Film Festivals to showcase their latest projects and network with industry leaders from the world of independent cinema. Several SCA-related films were screened as part of both festivals.

Jerome Sable '09 and Eli Batalion at the premiere of Legend of Beaver Dam

Circumstance, the story of an Iranian family struggling with a teenager’s sexual rebellion won the Audience Award for Drama. Produced by Melissa Lee ’07 and executive produced by Christina Won ‘09., the film featured title sequences by Chino Wong ‘05.

Recent graduate Jerome Sable ’09 received honorable mention for his horror/musical short Legend of Beaver Dam.

At the Slamdance Film Festival, the feature Superheroes won the Theatrical Release Offer Award. The film follows the lives of several ordinary people around the country who dress up and attempt to fight crime. It was directed and written by Michael Barnett and Theodore James.  Alumni Doug Bush '88, Derek Boonstra '07 and Jeff Chen '08 edited the film.

The short film Hello Caller, directed by Andrew Putschoegl and written by Tom Lenk, won the short category. Kelly Richard '01 photographed the film. The film profiles a call into a suicide helpline that goes horribly wrong.
