Remembering Larry Auerbach
Dear SCA Community:
It is with deep sadness that we let you know that Larry Auerbach, who established the SCA Office of Industry Relations and led it for 25 years, has died. He was 95.
Larry was a force of nature. He was an agent at the Williams Morris Agency for 47 years before coming to SCA in 1992. Like many executives of his generation, he began in the WMA mailroom and worked his way up. He was a dream maker for some of the most successful artists in music and television, getting Elvis Presley his first television appearance, and negotiating deals for Norman Jewison, Bernardo Bertolucci, Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, Bea Arthur, Alan Alda, and many more.
Larry was also a wise, generous mentor and helped launch the careers of too many successful SCA alumni to count or note here. He was known as “the man with the golden rolodex” which meant he knew just about everyone in the industry, and had their direct phone numbers. He often said he was happy to pick up the phone for our talented students. In practice, he picked up the phone for everyone who needed help making an industry connection—students, faculty and staff. He was especially passionate about helping the School connect with the support needed to establish new curriculum. He was truly the agent for all of SCA.

In 2006 he was the first chairholder of the Larry Auerbach Endowed Chair, which was established by Marcia Lucas in his honor. To say he was beloved at SCA is truly an understatement. Many are asking his family and the School about how to honor Larry. You may do so if you wish by making a gift to The Carole and Larry Auerbach and Family Endowed Fund. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
