The (Cinematic) Art of Play

Playstation visits SCA Campus

The USC School of Cinematic Arts has been at the forefront of studying the theory and practice of video games for years. On October 31st through November 2nd. Sony’s Playstation Company will visit campus to speak to students about the future of the games industry and unveil the new game Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

Scott Rohde, President of Playstation

“It’s not something that we usually do,” said Playstation President and Senior Vice President of Worldwide Studios America Scott Rohde. “It means a lot to bring something as special as the launch of Uncharted to USC. It’s also a great opportunity for students who are interested in our industry to hang out. There are going to be recruiters there and it’s going to be a chance for students to ask questions in an open forum.”

At the event, executives from Playstation will tour the facilities, visit with students playing Reality Ends Here and speaking about the future of video games.

Events include:

- November 1st. Scott Rohde, Amy Hennig, creative director at Naughty Dog Studios and Shannon Henry, Manager of Talent Acquisition at SONY in SCA 108, at 2:00pm. The discussion will be moderated by Tracy Fullerton, Chair of the USC Interactive Media Division. SONY HR will be meeting with students after the discussion. Please bring resumes.

- PlayStation Recruiters onsite October 31–November 2: come learn about career opportunities and PlayStation's internship program and submit resumes. (under the tent in Pardee Plaza)

- The PlayStation Experience Truck will be onsite October 31–November 2. Twenty gaming kiosks featuring Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, and Everybody Dance (in Pardee Plaza)

Rohde had advice for students looking to break into the games industry. “The one thing you have to do is stick to what you love,” said Rohde. “If you’re into the art side or the filming side or the writing side or even the engineering side, you have to stick with that and take it as far as you can take you. People are going to latch onto that passion.”
