The Nina Foch Course

Beloved SCA Professor's Course on DVD

For over 40 years SCA Professor Nina Foch (1928-2008) taught a distinguished generation of filmmakers at the USC School of Cinema-Television and the American Film Institute. In 2010, executive producers George Lucas, Randal Kleiser, Marthe and Arent Foch-Fenter van Vlissingen, Dirk de Brito and Ted Braun released The Nina Foch Course for Filmmakers and Actors on DVD, which brings an experience that has been available only in the country's most select film schools to a wide audience.

"I took her class forty years ago, and she went from being a teacher to a mentor to a best friend," said Kleiser. "Her unique teaching style reflected her influences, ranging from Lee Strasberg and Stella Adler to Vincente Minnelli and Stanley Kubrick. Several generations of filmmakers are lucky to have been trained by her, and there will never be anyone like her again.”

Foch was not only a beloved teacher but also an Academy Award nominated actress for her role in Executive Suite in 1954. Her other notable credits include Spartacus, The Ten Commandments and An American in Paris. Foch was in charge of shaping such popular classes as CTWR 572, Practicum in Directing Actors for Film and CTWR 574, Advanced Seminar in Directing Actors for Film. She continued teaching until her death in 2008.
