MISC focuses on the profound impact that entertainment media can have on individual knowledge and behavior and, on society in general. Understanding the powerful change media effects in individual attitude and behavior as well as in the future development of society at large, MISC believes that writers, filmmakers and media professionals play an increasingly vital role in shaping public opinion and transforming society for the good.

The Institute looks at all types of social issues and current challenges, including, but not limited to, civil rights, human rights, children’s rights, women’s rights, animal rights, environmental protection, global warming, education, public health issues, gender issues, homosexuality, government, religion, immigration, refugees, poverty, racism, terrorism, crime and violence and substance abuse.

MISC seeks to:

  • Create, educate and empower the next generation of new and innovative media makers from around the world who integrate social change messaging into their narratives.
  • Maximize the presence of pro-social issue media in existing and future content by becoming a center of excellence that links issue experts to professional content creators.
  • Demonstrate and measure the efficacy and impact of pro-social media on popular culture in order to influence the expansion of pro-social media content.
  • Develop and implement strategies for finding and building audiences for social media content across a variety of media platforms.
