Ruben Hickman

Ruben Hickman is a Production Designer, Art Director, and Concept Artist for feature animated films. Most recently, he production designed The Bob’s Burgers Movie and art directed The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. He also worked on Shrek, Madagascar, Prince of Egypt, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Megamind, and many other major motion pictures. He is currently Production Designer at Wilo Productions, overseeing new art development and serving as lead art consultant at Loren Bouchard’s company. He has worked in the feature animation industry for almost thirty years, including at DreamWorks Feature Animation, Paramount Pictures, and Walt Disney Feature Animation. He has taught at USC (1997-2001) and Art Center College of Design (2009-2010). He has done freelance work for clients that include Wes Anderson, Coldplay, Alex McDowell, and Justin Bua. He got his start doing concert posters and album covers for punk bands in the Bay Area, where he grew up, and designed hundreds of skateboards for the now legendary Plan B skateboard company in the 1990s. He graduated with honors from Art Center College of Design in 1995.
