Carrie Chen (she/her) is a new media artist working with 3D animation, projection installation and virtual reality. She takes a phenomenological approach to exploring sublime experiences, Asian mythologies, collective memory and the evolution of portraiture. Often in collaboration with AI, Chen creates digital entities who she considers to be artificial surrogates for existential introspection.
Chen grew up between New York and Shanghai, and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at USC’s Media Arts + Practice program and has exhibited internationally at STRP Festival, WeHo Arts and Epoch Gallery. She holds an MFA of Design Media Art from UCLA, and a dual bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology and Art History from NYU.
