EMMY Cinematography Multi Camera “8 Simple Rules” ABC Primetime
EMMY Cinematography Single Camera “My Indian Summer” CBS Daytime
He is an avid Inventor that has been recognized for his contributions to improving the efficiency of television production with his novel lighting devices and has been issued a dozen Patents for his innovative lights.
Hooked on photography from a young age the way that most boys were into sports, Bruce Finn developed his first roll of film at age nine and had his own darkroom at 12. He was also committed to social change spending his summers as a volunteer to build homes for the poor.
Following high school, Finn joined a non-profit organization putting water systems into low income houses in Vermont. It didn't take long however before he was shooting compelling photographs to raise funds for the organization. Realizing he could do more good with his camera than a shovel he returned to school for further studies.
At Antioch College, Finn studied Photography and then became interested in Video through professor Bob Devine. It took only one P.A. job on a Frigidaire Industrial near school for Finn to aspire to being a cameraman. During the rest of his time at Antioch he shot every school project he could get involved with. Eventually moving to Hollywood, his attempts to get into the industry didn’t work, Finn moved back east and took a television station internship which soon led to a job offer that would have made Finn the youngest production manager at a network affiliate. He turned down the job to wait for an entry level technical position. Some months later the station offered him a "Production Cameraman Editor" position that enabled him to gain some valuable practical experience with various aspects of shooting and lighting.
Several years of struggling to learn the craft preceded Finn's return to Hollywood. Armed with the very beginnings of a "reel" he took anything he could get including extremely low budget, sometimes dangerous (in hindsight should never have done) work. Always striving to make every job look as good as possible no matter the budget or circumstances Finn worked hard to learn the craft, and climb the ladder.
He shot many commercials including years of "Barbie", Music Videos and TV shows including "The A-List” and “Beakman’s World”. It was a 1995 CBS school break special, “My Indian Summer”, about a Native American girl that finally gave him the opportunity to combine visual
impact with an important message. The project earned an Emmy Award for Outstanding Single Camera Photography.
Finn went on to serve as Cinematographer for Peter Tolan’s television series "Style and Substance", the popular comedy "The Hughley's" (four seasons), "Leap of Faith", "Blue Collar Comedy Tour: the Movie" and the independent feature "Naturally Native" which was screened at Sundance in 1998.
Bruce was then actively busy with Pilots and several series including “Eight Simple Rules" (2004 EMMY Multi Camera Cinematography)
One of the first Film DP’s to start shooting Network Sitcoms on HD he went on to lens “Lucky Louie” for HBO and BET’s hit show “The Game” on location in Atlanta.
Recent accomplishments have included high profile Holographic image capture and the opportunity to work with top VFX Supervisors including Steven Rosenbaum (Avatar) and Chris Shaw (Harry Potter).
Bruce shot “Apologue 2047” in Beijing, Directed by Zhang Yimou https://vimeo.com/222357541 and his latest Hologram Project was recent Grammy Nominee HER’s Concert at the Novo Theatre.
