Maggy Torres-Rodriguez is a Cuban-American screenwriter and video editor born and raised in Miami, FL. 

Maggy received her B.S.C in Film Production and Music Business from the University of Miami, where she wrote, directed, and shot a music video that premiered at the Miami International Film Festival, and was the director of photography for another short film that got into the Cannes Film Festival’s Short Film Corner.   She also holds an M.F.A. in Writing for Film and Television from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, where she was awarded the Dr. Rodolfo Montes Scholarship and the Robert Rodriguez Fellowship to Support New Voices in Entertainment.

Upon graduation, Maggy wrote an award-winning short film called "Palante" that was shot and produced in Cuba, and her feature and pilot scripts have placed in many screenwriting competitions, including the Austin Film Festival, ScreenCraft Pilot Drama Competition, and ScreenCraft True Story & Public Domain Competitions.  Her latest film, “Pallavi,” a dystopian sci-fi short about a couple dealing with the loss of their son, made its world premiere at the Miami Film Festival in March 2021 and landed at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner as well.

Since 2016, Maggy has worked as an Executive Assistant at Lionsgate Entertainment, as a casting assistant for shows like America’s Got Talent and The Voice, and a full-time video editor for the Spanish Broadcasting Network (SBS), Univision, and HBO Latin America.

As of August 2022, Maggy is a recipient of the Sundance Latiné Fellowship and COLLAB Scholarship, along with being a Lab Mentor for the M Film Lab OpenScreenplay, a film lab meant to amplify Latinx voices in storytelling.
