Jackson Kroopf, MFA in Social Documentation, UC Santa Cruz

Jackson Kroopf is an award-winning filmmaker, podcast producer and educator. He mixes interview, improv, archive and writing to make work that lies somewhere between fiction and non-fiction.

Jackson’s films have screened at BFI London, Clermont-Ferrand, Outfest, SFFILM and over 100 other festivals worldwide, in addition to being a Vimeo Staff Pick, Short of the Week, on NOWNESS, and broadcast on PBS. Their short NASIR won the Shorts Competition Grand Jury Prize at Doc NYC with distribution from The Los Angeles Times.

Jackson is the producer/editor for the popular podcasts For The Wild and Sex Birth Trauma. In addition to teaching at USC, he has taught film and podcast production at Vassar College, CalArts and Youth Cinema Project, in addition to community centers in Poughkeepsie, Oakland, and Los Angeles. 

Jackson received their BA with honors in Imagined Alternatives from Vassar College and an MFA with distinction from University of California, Santa Cruz in Social Documentation. His work has received support from The Sundance Institute, The National Endowment for the Humanities, The Mellon Foundation, Frameline, Getty, SCI-Arc, UCLA Film and Television Archives, and the W.K. Rose Fellowship.
