About Sell Your House

They had no money and no connections. But James had a house. How two friends made a successful million dollar movie called “The Last Stop in Yuma County.” And the lessons we learned along the way.

About the Guest
ERIC FOSS (Director, DP, SCA Alumnus)
A survival TV show cameraman who found himself on his friend's set, The Last Stop in Yuma County, filming what would become Sell Your House. For the next three years he went broke shooting 300 hours of footage, editing with Brandon while living on separate coasts, and trying to understand how the hell indie film distribution works!
About the Sell Your House Distribution Seminar
Sell Your House director Eric Foss had no idea what indie film distribution was when he started documenting the equally ignorant James and Francis on their journey through the production and distribution of The Last Stop in Yuma County. Throughout the three and a half year process of making this documentary, the traditional path taken by most indie films became more defined: Go to film festivals, hire a sales rep, build buzz with a good PR team, and find a distributor. What also became clear was the drawbacks of this traditional model. The Sell Your House distribution seminar uses the behind the scenes story of The Last Stop of Yuma County as a case study for traditional indie distribution and compares that to the self-distribution path Sell Your House is taking. Both models have their positives and negatives and it is important for every budding filmmaker to understand the terms, options, and drawbacks of each before they blindly venture into this essential process. We all want to make our art, but making movies is expensive, and you won’t be able to continue doing it unless you figure out how to make money. The first step to that process is understanding how the industry works and this seminar exists to define a foundation for filmmakers to work off of so that they are prepared when the day comes for their first distribution meeting. Come learn the tricks of the trade! As an added bonus, all attendees will receive a copy of the slideshow for future reference.
