About The Soccermen
When some random on Wikipedia called Pohnpei ‘the worst team in the world,’ two English students — with zero coaching experience — said, ‘Right then. Let’s fix that.’ What followed was a footballing odyssey in the Pacific, as two clueless coaches and a ragtag team of islanders chased an impossible dream: their first win. What began as a lark turned into a shared journey of discovery. Two island cultures—British and Micronesian—had raised their men the same way: don’t cry, don’t talk, don’t feel. Football became the way through. A reminder that before it became a global media circus, the beautiful game was always meant to be a place to belong.

About the Guest
MATT CONRAD (Writer, Director, Producer, SCA Alumnus)
Matt Conrad is an award-winning English producer and director based in Los Angeles. A graduate of USC’s Peter Stark Producing Program (MFA, 2010), Matt has produced Super Bowl commercials and major campaigns for brands including Carvana, Fiji Water, Teleflora, Wonderful Pistachios, and POM Wonderful. His recent documentary series Reinventing the Wheel, starring NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson, earned both Telly and Webby Awards. He is currently producing a docuseries on professional pickleball.
The Soccermen marks Matt’s first feature documentary as a director — a 15-year journey that began when he and his best friend set out to coach the world’s worst football team on the remote Pacific island of Pohnpei. The film has been garnering international festival recognition, with screenings in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Italy, Spain, France, Slovenia, and Austria.
