About the Event

2018 marks the twentieth anniversary of the release of Terry Gilliam's mind-bending, visually stunning film adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's hallucinogenic tour de force, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. In celebration of the anniversary, the School of Cinematic Arts will host a screening of this anarchic masterpiece starring Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro, followed by a discussion with Depp, Producer Laila Nabulsi, and Cinematographer Nicola Pecorini. Select props, costumes, and photographs from the HST Archives and the filmmakers' private collections will be on display in the Hugh M. Hefner Exhibition Hall in the George Lucas Building from August 20th through September 28th, 2018.

About Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

When a writing assignment lands journalist Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) and sidekick Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro) in Las Vegas, they decide to make it the ultimate business trip. But before long, business is forgotten and trip has become the key word. Fueled by a suitcase full of mind-bending pharmaceuticals, Duke and Gonzo set off on a fast and furious ride through nonstop neon, surreal surroundings and a crew of the craziest characters ever (including cameo appearances by Cameron Diaz, Christina Ricci, Gary Busey and many others). But no matter where misadventure leads them, Duke and Gonzo discover that sometimes going too far is the only way to go.
