About Caño Martin Peña: A Blueprint for Better

Caño Martin Peña: A Blueprint for Better is a short documentary produced by The American Institute of Architects that highlights the resiliency efforts in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria slammed the island in 2017 and left more than 3 million American citizens without power. The short film shines a light on the vibrant Puerto Rican community and the many challenges Hurricane Maria brought to the neighborhood. Featured in the film are architects working with local city planners and community leaders to develop innovative solutions to the many infrastructure problems that continue to burden the community.

The story of Caño Martín Peña is a poignant example to kick off the fourth annual AIA Film Challenge, which invites architects and filmmakers to collaborate in telling stories of architects, civic leaders, and their communities working together toward positive community impact, creating a Blueprint for Better.
