Play a demo of Crisis on the Planet of the Apes VR

Five years since its outbreak, the Simian Flu has wiped out half of humanity and left other primates...evolved. Now at the crossroads of two species’ destinies, you are an ape with advanced intelligence, captured and held prisoner in a heavily guarded scientific facility as mankind desperately searches for a cure.

A cinematic adventure game of conquest, betrayal, and survival. The tale is a new one set in the North American Rocky Mountains during the timeline between Dawn of Planet of the Apes and War for Planet of the Apes.

Caesar 360 Interaction - A NextGen Workflow for Apes VR Demo

This showcases how assets from the Cinematic pipeline can be re-purposed for VR and other trans-media experiences.

WORKSHOP: Ape Movement - Taught by Terry Notary

Akira Kurosawa Stage (Stage E), RZC 114, Robert Zemeckis Center for Digital Arts
For the past 18 years, Terry Notary has been developing characters and cultures from diverse worlds ranging from aliens to apes and super heroes to monsters for some of the most ambitious films in the world. His workshop culminates from a blend of his experiences as a world-class gymnast, Cirque du Soleil acrobat, actor and movement specialist. Notary has created his own system of breaking down what he calls the blueprint of experience and teaches actors how to understand and utilize their most powerful vehicle of expression; the body. “Like a musician, an actor must understand the delicate balance of the mind and body and allow effortless intention to express itself through their instrument.”

WORKSHOP: Exploring Characters Outside the Box - Taught by Karin Konoval

The Performance Capture Stage, RZC 118, Robert Zemeckis Center for Digital Arts
How does one prepare to play a mature male orangutan and other extraordinary characters with unique physical and vocal demands? Karin will discuss her approach to the work and lead participants in an active exploration.

About Terry Notary - Workshop Teacher: Ape Movement


 

American actor Terry Notary is much in demand as a stunt coordinator, choreographer and movement coach. Since his early days as a performer with Cirque du Soleil, he has portrayed numerous creatures and animals on television and in film, and is known for his performances in box office hits including FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, AVATAR, THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN, RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, THE HOBBIT TRILOGY, SUICIDE SQUAD and KONG: SKULL ISLAND.

Notary’s latest feature is fellow motion capture star Andy Serkis’s JUNGLE BOOK, on which he was both movement choreographer and second unit director. Plans are underway for Notary to direct his first feature.

About Karin Konoval - Workshop Teacher:
Exploring Characters Outside the Box


 

Karin Konoval's extensive credits include “Maurice” in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes. Screen credits of the past year include the recurring guest star roles of "Frija Dengdamor" in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and "Sister Delores" in The Exorcist, and a very special guest star role in The X-Files episode “Plus One” in which she plays both "Chucky" and "Judy", a brother and sister each with split personalities. Notable past credits include the guest star role of "Bloom" in Travelers, the lead role of "Mary Leonard" in the feature Cable Beach (for which she received a Philip Borsos award), "Mrs. Peacock" in the infamous X-Files episode “Home”, and the "Wicked Witch" in the mini-series Tin Man. She has played supporting roles in many other features and guest star and recurring roles on tv series such as The Magicians, I Zombie, Beyond, Bates Motel, Lucifer, Continuum, When Calls The Heart, Supernatural and many more. Karin has also received numerous awards for her work in theatre, performing lead roles in contemporary classics and a wide range of musicals.

About 50 Years of Planet of the Apes Exhibit


The USC School of Cinematic Arts has partnered with 20th Century Fox Film to host an exclusive exhibit and retrospective celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Planet of the Apes franchise titled 50 Years of Planet of the Apes.

A vast collection of props, costumes, photos, posters and artwork from across all iterations of the longstanding franchise will be on display in the Hugh Hefner Exhibition Hall at USC this spring. The exhibit be open from January 26th through May 13th, 2018. A series of panels and screenings will complement the exhibit, including all feature films from the Planet of the Apes universe.

The exhibit is in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the 1968 release of the first Planet of the Apes film, the original installment of the still expanding franchise that now includes four sequels, a TV series, an animated series, comic books, merchandise, and 20th Century Fox Film’s highly successful prequel film series Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and War for the Planet of the Apes.

50 Years of Planet of the Apes is funded by USC Visions & Voices: The Arts and Humanities Initiative, and is free and open to the public. The Hugh Hefner Exhibition Hall is located in the lobby of the George Lucas Building at the USC School of Cinematic Arts Complex, 900 W. 34th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90007, and will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. - 10:00 P.M., and Saturday & Sunday from 12:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.

NO STUDENT OR THEATER PARKING IS AVAILABLE AT THE ROBERT ZEMECKIS CENTER.

We recommend parking at the Shrine West Parking garage located at the intersection of West 32nd Street & Shrine Place, or the USC Royal Street Structure, which can be reached via the USC Royal Street Gate Entrance, located at the intersection of W. Jefferson Blvd. & Royal Street. Parking passes may be purchased for $12.00 at the gate. Metered street parking is also available along 32nd street.
