April 18, 2017 - April 24, 2017, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
SCI Lobby and SCA Stage 4
USC’s PhD program in interdisciplinary Media Arts + Practice combines practice-based art and design research with critical, theoretical research and reflection. This year’s iMAPPENING exhibition presents the ongoing conjectures, designs and creative expressions under exploration by the iMAP PhD students.
The projects presented explore themes that question our relationship to information and data, knowledge and memory, the dialectic of public versus private self-presentation, and diversity. They speculate on possible practices towards a tangible near future. These projects address paradigms that include the invisibility of software in contemporary culture, sustainability, ecology and alternative relationships to scientific data through aesthetic interpretation. The methods of expression used include speculative design, visualization, sonification, cinematic approaches and serious games.
Opening Reception: April 18, 5pm
