Annie Small

Program Administrator


Annie Small is the Senior Program Manager of SCA's American Film Showcase (AFS), the largest arts exchange program of the American government.

Prior to her role at AFS, Annie worked as an independent documentary film producer. She is the producer of the Oscar® winning documentary short COLETTE, directed by Anthony Giacchino and released by The Guardian and the producer of Guille Isa and Angello Faccini’s Oscar® qualifying documentary short DULCE, released by The New York Times OpDocs. The first film Annie produced, Rose Bush’s VULTURES OF TIBET, was nominated for an International Documentary Association award for Best Documentary Short and was a finalist for a Student Academy Award®. She is Co-Producer for PJ Raval’s award-winning PBS feature documentary BEFORE YOU KNOW IT and Co-Producer for Ema Ryan Yamazaki’s Hulu documentary feature MONKEY BUSINESS: The Adventures of Curious George’s Creators. Experienced in all phases of film production, Annie is also skilled in distribution & marketing, and has raised nearly $1.6 million via crowdfunding for dozens of film projects.

Annie is passionate about using film and storytelling to create positive social impact and to bring about social transformation. She is co-founder of OUTsider Festival, Austin’s queer multi-arts festival and academic conference, a member of the Documentary Producers Alliance, and a member of New Day Films,the longest-running distribution cooperative for independent documentary filmmakers.

If Annie’s not dancing or singing karaoke, she’s telling stories about the delightful chaos of growing up with six brothers and sisters.
