Ian Deitchman

Adjunct Professor

Affiliated Divisions:

Peter Stark Producing Program

Ian Deitchman has been writing in feature films and television with his writing partner, Kristin Robinson, for over twenty years. In 2010, their original screenplay, LIFE AS WE KNOW IT, was produced and released by Warner Bros. It starred Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel. As the industry shifted more towards television, Ian and Kristin evolved with it. In 2013 they began working with Jason Katims on his acclaimed NBC series PARENTHOOD. Since then, they have continued to work with Jason on shows such as RISE, ALMOST FAMILY and AS WE SEE IT, as well as other series, including THE BOLD TYPE, SUITS and ORDINARY JOE. Ian and Kristin have also sold numerous hour long pilot scripts and pitches, most recently setting up FOR BETTER AND WORSE at NBC/Universal Television and BAND TOGETHER at Netflix. In 2025, Amazon Studios ordered an eight episode first season of their original family dramedy, IT’S NOT LIKE THAT, starring Scott Foley and produced by The Wonder Project.

Ian has also served as a two term member of the Board of Directors for the Writers Guild of America, West, and as a member of the WGA's 2014 Negotiating Committee. Ian continues to volunteer with the WGA, co-chairing The Guild Screenings Committee with Scott Alexander, and working to improve the lives of professional writers in what has become an increasingly difficult and contracting business. It’s an honor and thrill to continue his relationship with the USC School of Cinematic Arts’ Peter Stark Program, getting to work with young people as they enter the entertainment business.
