Matt Scott is an adjunct associate professor in the Division of Media Arts & Practice, teaching courses on giant screen and IMAX filmmaking. He is also the faculty advisor of the Large Format Cinema Club (LFCC).

Matt began his career and has worked extensively in post-production, focusing mostly on documentary and non-fiction projects for television and theatrical release. As a Post-Production Supervisor he was often called upon to build entire post departments from scratch, designing the workflows, implementing the technology and managing the department.

In 2010, after many years as a Post Production Supervisor, Matt transitioned into IMAX feature documentaries on the film Born To Be Wild. His role in IMAX filmmaking expanded to include creating the digital field workflow on the feature Island of Lemurs: Madagascar where he spent half a year living and working in Madagascar. His most recent IMAX documentary work on the film Pandas can be seen at the California Science Center IMAX.

Matt returned to USC in 2014 and spent four years as the IMAX Specialist supporting the newly opened Michelle and Kevin Douglas IMAX Theatre and Immersive Lab before transitioning to a teaching position.

Every year since 2022, students from Matt’s classes have been invited to present their IMAX short films or mission film pitches at the Giant Screen Cinema Association conference, exhibiting their creative works on the largest screen in Los Angeles.

Outside of USC Matt is the Vice President of Business Development for GB Labs.

Matt is a member of the Producer’s Guild of America, a 2025 jury member for Dome Fest West and a former documentary programmer for the Slamdance Film Festival. As an artist, Matt has created interactive installation works, a stereo VR film, patch and sticker designs for the Burning Man Festival in Nevada. He is a graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
