John C. Hench Division of Animation + Digital Arts
Marcel Valcarce is a successful creative director, educator, and devoted father. He brings together a deep connection to technology (he wrote his first computer game when he was 12 years old), with a love of art instilled in him by his mother, an award winning painter and sculptor for over 50 years. This passion for technology and art is what led him to give up his work as a system’s analyst consulting with Fortune 100 companies in New York to attend the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts Animation program where he received an MFA in Digital Art and Animation in 1997.
Marcel then embarked on a creative career that includes many top Hollywood design and visual effects studios. At Imaginary Forces he contributed to the success of ten high-end CGI commercials and as many feature film title sequences including Flubber, The Avengers, and Mimic which earned an International Monitor Award for Best Achievement in Film Titles. Marcel’s career continued at Rhythm & Hues, R. Greenberg/Schluter, Creative Domain/Trailer Park, Pacific Title and Art Studios, and Kaleidoscope Films among others.
Marcel’s entrepreneurial streak caused him to found his own design and animation company, inMotion Studios, in 2005 where he functions as Creative Director and Chief Technology Officer. As Creative Director his focus on client needs has led to dozens of successful projects. In 2008 and 2009 he designed branding for the Los Angeles Film Festival, and re-branded the ACE Eddie awards. In 2010 he designed a film logo for Billy Joel’s production company Maritime Pictures. Marcel’s ability to quickly absorb and put new technology to use has allowed his company to move nimbly into emerging areas such as stereoscopic CGI production in Maya and Red Camera workflows with the latest Adobe Creative Suite.
