What inspired you to want to study the cinematic arts?
I grew up with animated characters on television, in films, and in games. I wanted to be a part of the process to bring these characters to life and was also naturally drawn to the field of CG and interactive media that is constantly growing and innovating.
What scholarship awards did you receive directly from SCA?
I received an Annenberg Fellowship.
What has been the impact of receiving a scholarship from SCA?
I've had the pleasure of working with Tracy Fullerton on her game, Walden. I've been able to see and contribute to the growth of the game and work with a truly amazing team.
What activities or student organizations are you involved in outside of the classroom?
Outside of the classroom I'm a student representative for my cohort and I also work on freelance projects related to technical art outside of school.
What has been your favorite class or project at SCA thus far?
My favorite project was a 4-month game production with my fellow IMGD classmate, Sebastian Baracaldo. The game is called "Paz It On!", and you play as a friendly alpaca that helps other animals in a 3D adventure platformer.
What is a meaningful experience you've had while at SCA?
During my freshmen year I had the opportunity to collaborate with students from Tokyo Geidai. Over the course of the semester we worked with each other across the globe to make a game called "Arigatou, Ningen-san!" It was very cool to work with students who have a different background and approach to game design and animation.
What are your career goals after graduation?
I hope to keep learning as a technical artist and creative director in the future. Not only do I want to keep up with the evolving industry and technology, but I want to be able to solve the issues we see in interactive media nowadays regarding representation and accessibility.
What advice do you have for prospective students looking to apply to SCA?
Your perspective and your experiences are all valid and unique. If you can express and share what you have to offer in whatever you do, that's truly an accomplishment. Also don't forget to support and vouch for others along the way.
