High Dynamic Range Imaging involves taking a series of photographs at incremental exposures. When applied to a panoramic image the natural light can be sampled in order to light a CG object. In addition, it can enhance the viewing of panoramic images as Greg demonstrates:

This technique involves taking photos of a subject from multiple angles then generating a 3D model from that information. Texturing information can even be generated from the same photographs.
