Why choose animation as your medium?

Animation allows me to merge my lifelong passion for drawing with storytelling in a way that other mediums cannot. Since childhood, I have loved drawing, but as I grew older, I found myself wanting to bring my drawings to life. Animation offers complete control over the creative process, especially for someone introverted like me. It gives me limitless freedom to create unique characters and worlds.

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on my second-year short film, a team-based project that keeps me very busy. The structured environment of USC’s program allows me to fully immerse myself in filmmaking while collaborating with talented peers. It feels like a creative kitchen, where everyone brings their own unique ingredients to the table to create something incredible together. At the same time, I’m preparing for my final-year graduation project, which is both exciting and challenging.

What future projects do you see yourself creating and why?

I’m in the early stages of developing my graduation short film. This film will complement my previous MFA1 and MFA2 projects, continuing my theme of using adorable animal characters to tell heartwarming stories. Looking ahead, I hope to create works—whether films, series, or short-form content—that can bring joy, happiness and positivity to the world.

What are some highlights of your time at the John C. Hench Division of Animation + Digital Arts?

One of the most memorable experiences was designing posters for a graduation project during my first year. It was the first time I saw my artwork printed and displayed in a public setting, which was both thrilling and inspiring. Contributing to the screening of outstanding student films also gave me a sense of accomplishment and motivation.

Why attend USC?

USC offers unparalleled connections to the Hollywood film and animation industries, providing students with valuable networking opportunities. Beyond that, the school’s state-of-the-art facilities and strong support system create an environment where students can experiment, collaborate, and grow as artists. The diverse, like-minded community here has been instrumental in shaping my journey.

What advice would you give to someone considering applying to the John C. Hench Division of Animation + Digital Arts?

One of the most special aspects of this program is the diverse range of talented students, each with their own unique artistic voice. Being in this environment has encouraged me to embrace my individuality and focus on my strengths. My advice to prospective students is to prioritize storytelling and personal expression, become good at cooperating while strengthening our strengths rather than trying to excel in every technical aspect of animation. Enjoy the creative process—great work comes from passion, not pressure.
