What inspired you to want to study the cinematic arts?
I've spent my entire life drawing and being fascinated by animation , cartoons, and comics. Watching 3D animated films as a kid was incredibly inspiring to me and I immediately knew that was what I wanted to do. My love for art and film brought me here to USC, applying to this program was the best decision I ever made.
What scholarship award(s) did you receive directly from SCA?
The Gene Autry Endowed Student Support Scholarship
What has been the impact of receiving a scholarship from SCA?
Receiving this scholarship has been very helpful financially. I am dependent on loans to attend this program so earning this scholarship was very helpful to help fund my education.
What activities or student organizations are you involved in outside of the classroom?
I am working as an animator on the USC Getty Unshuttered project with SCA Professors Mike Patterson and Candice Reckinger, in partnership with the Getty Art Museum.
What has been your favorite class or project at SCA thus far?
I really enjoyed Jason Reisig's 3D Animation and Advanced Animation courses. I had never done character animation before but always I wanted to learn and I learned so much. It was also an honor to learn from someone as talented as Jason.
What is a meaningful experience you've had while at SCA?
The encouragement and support of our talented professors and students has been very meaningful and inspiring to me. I'm grateful the environment in the animation department is very positive and collaborative. Everyone is helpful and wants to help each other succeed.
What are your career goals after graduation?
I hope to go into the industry as an animator or lighting artist, making 3D animated films in a large studio.
What advice do you have for prospective students looking to apply to SCA?
Perseverance is key, don't allow yourself to be discouraged. I was waitlisted my first time applying and it motivated me to better myself and my work, I was rewarded the next year by being accepted into the program. Also, everyone in the program comes from different artistic backgrounds, so be confident in your work and where you are as an artist.
