About the Class

Most of the great comedic characters have gotten their start in improv theater. Using methodologies based on the teachings of various improv schools such as Viola Spolin, Theater Sports and The Groundlings Theater, this class will lay the foundation of basic skills in improvisation which students can then use in creating a comedic character.

The course format is a combination of:

  • Lectures
  • In-class exercises
  • Games
  • Drills
  • In-class performances
As learning improvisation is very physical, students should expect to be up on their feet during each class.

The things that students will learn include (but not exclusive to):

  • Acting from “character”
  • Putting an emphasis on emotional truth
  • Stretch their vocal and physical range
  • Hone their listening and labeling skills
The best part is that students will go see an improv show with the class!
Come join the Creating a Comedic Character class and learn the skills that only improv can teach.
