REQUIRED MATERIALS
30-60 Second Self-Introductory Video
Video Guidelines:
- This must be a self-introductory video, not a sample of your work.
- You must be speaking directly to the camera.
- The video must be no longer than 60 seconds.
- Clearly state your full name and where you are from at the beginning.
Suggested Topics:
- You may choose to discuss the following (or other relevant topics of your choice):
- Why are you applying to the USC School of Cinematic Arts Summer Program?
- Why do you feel you're a good match for the Program?
- What are your future goals or ambitions?
- Name one artist - filmmaker, writer, musician, dancer, painter, actor, etc. - who inspires you and your work.
Personal Statement Guidelines
The SCA Summer Program Admission Committee will evaluate your personal statement as a reflection of your self-awareness and
artistic vision.
Unlike your introductory video, this is an opportunity to present yourself as a unique individual. Your statement should highlight
how your distinctive experiences, characteristics, background, values, and perspective on the world have shaped who you are -
and how these elements may influence your work as a creative filmmaker or game developer.
While enthusiasm for your field, favorite films/games, and production experience is common among applicants, we encourage you
to focus on what sets you apart. There is no standard format and no "correct" answer - just be authentic and reflective.
- 300-Word Limit.
- Must be uploaded in PDF format only.
Creative Writing Sample
The SCA Summer Program Admissions Committee will evaluate your creative sample solely on your ability to create a unique
central character of a film, series, or video game.
Please write a detailed character description of an original character. We are looking for more than just a name, role, age, job, etc.
Below are some questions to keep in mind when creating your character. Please note that these are just recommendations and not
mandatory questions.
What is their goal?
Do they have any shortcomings/weaknesses? Any strengths?
How do they feel about themselves and/or others?
Any likable or unlikable qualities?
- 300-Word Limit.
- Must be uploaded in PDF format only.
References
- The SCA Summer Program requires all applicants to submit one reference using the Recommendation Form that is only accessible on our SlideRoom application portal.
- Applicants will be asked to submit the name and email address of their recommender, who will then receive a link to the Recommendation Form.
- Recommendations must come from a current or former teacher, guidance counselor, or employer.
- The SCA Summer Program will not accept any Recommendation Forms or letters that are submitted separately from the application.
