D-Clearance Procedures



D-CLEARANCE PROCEDURES FOR UNDERGRADUATE CNTV STUDENTS  SPRING 2009


D-clearance processing (for currently enrolled students) begins:

    * Production students:             Monday, October 27, 10:00 a.m.
    * Critical Studies students:       Monday, October 27, 10:00 a.m.
    * Minors/Non-majors:              Monday, November 3, 10:00 a.m.

D-clearances are available on a first-come, first-served basis for CNTV majors. You do not have to wait until your advisement appointment to request D-clearances, EXCEPT FOR CTPR 241, 242, 290 and CTWR 413; CTPR 310, 376 and CTWR 414; and CTPR 480.

Undergraduate D-clearances will expire Friday, December 5 at 5:00pm.

“How do I get D-clearance?”

    * Consult the Spring 2009 Cinematic Arts Schedule posted outside Student Affairs and fill out the D-clearance Request Form available in Student Affairs, G-130. Make sure you use your 10-digit USC I.D. number (NOT your social security number).

    * Please request D-clearances for only those courses you plan to take.

    * Include alternative course selections in case your first-choice courses are full.

    * Drop off your D-clearance form at the window in the Student Affairs lobby.

    * You must pick up your confirmation form the following day to see if you received D-clearance or were placed on the wait-list. The D-clearance Information is also available on the SCA Community Web site (click on My Account).

D-clearance requests must be submitted in person. We will not accept requests by phone, by proxy, by fax, or by e-mail.

The Divisions of Animation and Digital Arts, Interactive Media and Writing will begin D-clearance processing for CNTV majors in their respective offices on Monday, November 3.

RETURNING STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT ENROLLED THIS FALL:

    * If you are on a one-semester leave of absence you may follow the schedule for currently enrolled students.

    * If you are in the second semester (or later) of a leave, you may request D-clearances beginning Tuesday, November 20.

THE FOLLOWING CRITICAL STUDIES COURSES REQUIRE D-CLEARANCE:

    * CTCS 473, Film Theories
   
D-CLEARANCE PROCEDURES FOR MINORS/NON-MAJORS FOR ELECTIVE CTPR COURSES:

    * D-clearances will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning Monday, November 3, 10:00 am.
    * Check the Spring 2009 SCA Non-Major Brochure or 2008-2009 USC Catalogue to verify if you are eligible to take a particular course.

    * Refer to the priority schedule below to see when you can submit a D-clearance request for CTPR classes to Student Affairs.

    * The Divisions of Animation, Critical Studies, Interactive Media, and Writing will accept D-clearance requests from each respective group on Monday, November 3. See each division for exact times.

PROCEDURES

    * Priority is based on when you passed CTPR 508 (see above).

    * Consult the Spring 2009 Cinematic Arts Schedule posted outside Student Affairs and fill out the D-clearance Request Form. Copies of the form are available in Student Affairs, GT-130. Use your ten-digit USC I.D. number (NOT your social security number). Also provide your USC e-mail address.

    * You may request up to eight (8) units of CTPR D-clearances, including NO MORE THAN TWO (2) OF THE INTERMEDIATE SEMINARS: CTPR 532, Intermediate Directing; CTPR 535, Intermediate Editing; and CTPR 537, Intermediate Cinematography. The maximum of eight units includes the business courses offered through Industry Relations (CTPR 561, 562, 563 and CNTV 589).

    * Include alternative course selections in case your first-choice courses are full.

    * Line up outside Student Affairs at the beginning of your priority period or anytime thereafter. Students will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis.

NOTE: You must show up in person to get D-clearances. We will not accept requests by phone, by proxy, by fax, or by e-mail. Sign-up sheets started by the students will not be honored.


NOTE: If a student cannot obtain all of the required approvals by the registration deadline he or she must register and pay for an alternate course (e.g., USC 100) to avoid a late fee. The School of Cinematic Arts will not waive late fees for students who submit their D-clearance request after the registration deadline.
