Beth Block received her BFA in art from Kent State University and her MFA in film from Cal Arts. Her 16mm experimental and documentary films have been screened internationally and are included in the collections of the Library of Congress and the Canadian Film Board. They have screened at MOMA and won awards at the Ann Arbor Film Festival and tour, Sinking Creek, Black Maria, and Philadelphia Film Festivals. Since 2007 she has worked in 1080p digital cinema. Her film 57 Jobless premiered at the 2010 Athens Film Festival and she has completed four films over the last three years.
She is also a committed arts advocate, first serving on the Board of Film Forum including three terms as its president, and then as a founding member of the board of the New Town Pasadena Foundation where she has remained active for the last twelve years and is that board’s current president.
She has worked professionally in the film industry throughout her career, first doing optical effects for films includingTerminator 2, Altered States and Wolfen, and more recently as a digital compositing artist creating visual effects for motion pictures including Astronaut Farmer, Looney Tunes: Back in Action, The Sponge Bob Square Pants Movie, and James and the Giant Peach.
