Jeff Crum received his M.F.A. in Cinematography from UCLA’s School of Cinema/Television in 1994. He began work as director of photography by testing and developing Sony’s first generation 1125 line High Definition TV system. He then shot an extensive series of experimental and documentary projects for Japanese Public Broadcasting [NHK], which showcased the new format on Japan’s HD direct broadcast satellite system.
Crum has been Director of Photography on theatrical feature films including Yemane Demissie’s
Tumult and Edgar Michael Bravo’s
I’ll Love You Forever Tonight.
Kevin Thomas (
LA Times), Henry Sheehan (
LA Weekly) and Emmanuel Levy (
Variety) have praised Crum's work, calling it “notably mature”, “crisp and uncluttered” and “technically impressive”.
Crum’s current feature project,
El Mar Encabritado, is a magical realist fable set on a deserted island in the Sea of Cortez.
Crum teaches digital cinematography in both undergraduate and graduate level production classes.
