Paul Demeyer was born in Bruges, Belgium. He studied animation at the Royal Academy in Ghent and received his Masters Degree at California Institute of the Arts in 1977. That same year he also won the Student Academy Award in Animation for his short film The Muse.
He began his career in Belgium where he directed commercials, story boarded and animated on TV shows and a feature film for Pen Film and BRT, the Belgian radio and television network. He also taught animation at the Royal Academy of Gent.
After a year of early computer animation at RTL Productions in Luxemburg he moved to London, England where he directed commercials for Richard Purdum Productions. In 1988 he produced and directed the animated short ”The Goose Girl” which won the Best Children Film Award at the Ottawa Animation Film Festival and The Animation Celebration in Los Angeles, 1989.
Since 1993 Paul Demeyer has been living in Los Angeles where he directed Duckman television episodes for Klasky-Csupo Inc, he also worked on the Rugrats TV series as its creative producer. He directed the animated feature Rugrats in Paris and sequence directed The Rugrats Movie and The Wild Thornberrys Movie for Paramount/ Nickelodeon Movies.
While developing a new feature film he now directs commercials in both 2D and CG animation at Wild Canary in Burbank, California.
Mr. Demeyer also illustrated children books published by Gollancz (now Penguin) in the UK.
He teaches storyboarding at the University of Southern California, he previously taught at the California Institute of the Arts, in England he taught at the Liverpool Polytechnic, West Surrey School of Art and Design and in Ghent, Belgium at the Royal Academy of Arts.
