The Bryan Singer Division of Cinema & Media Studies

In 1959, USC became the nation's first university to offer a Ph.D. in Critical Studies, and as such the School of Cinematic Arts has a long history of preparing some of the leading scholars in the discipline. The writings of SCA scholars appear in all the major publications in the field, and their books have become instrumental in educating and inspiring ensuing generations of cinematic artists and theorists.

Media Arts + Practice

The Ph.D. in Media Arts + Practice within the School of Cinematic Arts is a unique doctoral program offering a rigorous and creative environment for scholarly innovation as students explore the expanded field of the cinematic arts, with attention to design, media art, emerging technologies and critical thinking. A primary goal for the program is to define new modes of research and scholarship for the 21st century.
