CALL FOR PROJECTS: Sonic R/evolution, Listening in the 21st Century

USC Media Arts + Practice

USC’s Media Arts + Practice program hosts “sonic r/evolution: Listening in the 21st Century”, a symposium and exhibition on September 29th, 2017. The symposium offers interdisciplinary discussions on current listening technologies and the production/consumption of immersive, embodied and personalized audio. We are interested in the ways these transformations impact culture, alter how we experience the real and the virtual, and anticipate and shape the future of listening.

We are looking for projects to be presented in the exhibition that engage the themes of the conference creatively in the form of sound art, interactive art, design fiction, VR, AR, installations, video, games, technology based experiments, etc., that include sound as a crucial element of expression. Areas of exploration include, but are not limited to: spatial and immersive audio, headphone HRTF, binaural recording, procedural audio, embodied computing, augmented senses, bionic ears, modes of listening as an expressive method of storytelling, automated voice recognition, machine listening, sound based surveillance, media archeological or historical perspectives of listening technologies and future hearing.

Please submit a 300-500 word description and any relevant sample of your work to pbender@usc.edu to be considered.
