UCFTI Expo: Student Film Competition

This year’s UCFTI Student Film Competition invites students from USC School of Cinematic Arts, UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Chapman University, California Institute of the Arts, and the American Film Institute Conservatory to submit original short films that show their talent in filmmaking for a grand prize of 5,000 dollars. In addition to monetary prizes, the UCFTI Film Competition allows aspiring filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their best work for top executives in both the U.S. and Chinese film industries at the UCFTI Expo.

The top three finalists from the competition will have their films shown at the UCFTI Expo, and the grand prize winner will be announced at the Expo. In addition to the grand prize, runners up will receive a cash prize.

Eligibility:  To enter the contest, you must, at time of entry, be a student at USC School of Cinematic Arts, UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Chapman University, California Institute of the Arts, American Film Institute Conservatory, or a recent graduate (less than 2 years prior). If submitting as a graduate, you must have been a student when the film was completed. Films submitted previously for the UCFTI Competition are not eligible for re-entry. Films must have a completion date of Jan 1, 2015 or later.

About U.S. China Film & Television Expo

The UCFTI Expo aims to foster collaboration by helping U.S. and Chinese companies and individuals navigate Chinese and U.S. industry processes while connecting potential creative, financial and business partners.

The Expo will feature exhibitors from both China and the U.S. showcasing products and services that are instrumental in making today’s films, television shows, news segments, etc. including:

  • Film and television production equipment

  • Film and television studios and production companies

  • Display/projection equipment

  • Transmission systems

  • Management and information systems

  • Digital media

  • Mobile media

  • Post-production

  • Audio equipment

Exhibitors will benefit from access to revenue streams in China that they may not have explored yet; giving them the opportunity to develop brand awareness and increase sales.

The Expo will play host to dignitaries from a variety of influential Chinese organizations, possibly including representatives from China Film Group, Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film & TV, Shanghai Media Group, CTV Audio-Video (Beijing), International Culture Exchange Center, Shenzhen Media Group, and SAPPRFT.
