Mayer Receives University Award

Professor and Mary Pickford Chair Doe Mayer has been selected to receive the USC Associates Award for Excellence in Teaching. It is the highest honor the University faculty bestows on its members for outstanding teaching. Mayer’s award is one of two given this year, the other going to Professor Chi Mak in Chemistry.  

The Associates Award, to be given at the Annual Academic Convocation in April, cites Mayer as 'a poster child for USC's strategic plan for her contributions to multidisciplinarity, global reach and focus on problems of societal significance.'

Mayer has been at USC since 1987. She was the first woman on tenure track in the Production Department. The first woman to be awarded an endowed appointment. 

Mayer is co-head of SCA’s documentary program, holds a joint appointment in the Annenberg School for Communication. She also teaches in the school of Policy, Planning & Development. Mayer has co-taught courses with faculty in SCA’s Division of Critical Studies and the Keck School of Medicine

The award citation notes 'her commitment to interdisciplinary co-teaching, the great range and scope of her subject matter, and the mix of fundamental and applied scholarship in her classroom.'
