Darfur Now Film
By SCA Professors
The Downtime section of Time Magazine's May 23 Issue featured the DVD
of
Darfur Now as one of their picks of the week saying: "The true stars of
this worthy documentary are people like Hejewa Adam, whose village was
ravaged by the invaders and who has taken up arms to fight them. As the
world commiserates impotently, the Sudanese prove that every tragedy has its
heroes."
Darfur Now, written and directed by Writing Division Assistant
Professor Ted Braun and produced by Distinguished Professor Mark Jonathan
Harris, was released worldwide on DVD May 27 by Warner Home Video.
The film continues to play film festivals around the world, including It's All True
in Brazil in April, Planete Doc Review in Warsaw in May and the upcoming
Galway Film Fleadgh in July in Ireland.
This spring it was also the subject of a nationwide concert tour, the Darfur Now
College Tour, which screened the film on college campuses around the country prior
to concerts by an array of rock, hip-hop and popular artists. The tour which began in
Boulder, CO and traveled through Boston, Chicago, Washington, DC, Atlanta
and other major cities, concluded at UCLA on May 29.
Braun has also been invited to speak at the Aspen Ideas Festival, June 30-July 6. The Aspen
Ideas Festival, a program of the Aspen Institute, gathers scientists,
artists, politicians, historians, educators, activists, and other thinkers
to present and discuss some of the most important and fascinating ideas of
our time. Participants contribute provocative perspectives from their
fields, and discuss the world with a sophisticated audience highly motivated
to engage in dialogue.
A screening of
Darfur Now will open the festival the night of June 30.
