Special Animation/Visual Effects Workshop Ends

The special animation and visual effects workshop for 20 employees from the
Tata Elxsi studios in Mumbai, India, ended June 6 after three weeks with the
group returning to India on June 7. 

During the intensive three-week program, organized by Animation chair Kathy Smith,
and supervised by MFA Production Supervisor Mar Elepano, the group honed their skills
in a variety of creative and technical areas. 

Among the classes were Animation adjunct Eric Hanson on digital lighting, panoramic
photography, rendering and texturing;  RT Taylor who spent two days on visual effects; 
Shish Aikat and Jason Scott Lucas who discussed the production pipeline for feature
animation and gave them a tour of the Rhythm & Hues studio;  Animation
adjunct Tom Sito who demonstrated character design and techniques for
feature animation;  Will Weston with visual development, layout and design;
Maks Naporowski who spent two days on 3D animation assets and character
production workflow;  noted cinematographer and lighting expert Janusz
Sikora who demonstrated cinematography for animators, and Eric Furie who
spent three days on motion capture and facial animation. 

The entire group expressed their admiration for the workshop and will share their new
knowledge with their colleagues back in Mumbai.
