Teaming with Tobey Maguire
Neal Moritz (Stark ‘85) and Tobey Maguire are teaming up to produce
Afterburn, an adaptation of a comic book published by newbie company Red 5 Comics. The deal is not finalized, but Maguire would produce through his Maguire Entertainment banner and Moritz through his Original Films Shingle.
Moritz will also produce Columbia’s
Battle of Los Angeles. Columbia’s Sam Dickerman (Stark ’94) brought in the project about an alien invasion that starts in Santa Monica and heads east toward Los Angeles.
Moritz’s company has also renewed its first-look deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment through 2012. Columbia co-president Matt Tolmach said, “He knows exactly what kinds of films we are looking to make and, equally important, he is a hands on producer who knows how to deliver first-rate production value at a price.”
Moritz will produce the untitled buddy comedy Columbia bought from writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore’s pitch. Finally, he will produce along with Scholastic Media’s Deborah Forte, R.L. Stine’s wildly successful Goosebumps series as a feature film.
