First Pitch
Attracts writers and agency representatives
This year’s seventh annual First Pitch event on May 5, brought together 48 SCA writers and representatives from 39 agencies, management firms and production companies at the Four Seasons Hotel.
Hosted by
Mad Men creator and executive producer Matthew Weiner (MFA Production 1990), the evening featured 20 rounds in which the soon-to-graduate writers pitched their rehearsed synopses of their film and television projects.
Dean Daley told the undergraduate and graduate students who were awaiting the opening bell, that they were in the “enviable position of being able to sit down in front of industry leaders and ptich the projects that they’ve poured their hearts into, along with plenty of late nights.”
The event which began in 2002 features a format of a series of five-minute sessions between writer and industry rep throughout the evening. Writing chair Jack Epps, Jr. said “It’s really amazing to watch them in action.” The program was sponsored by Albert Friedman and the Samuel Friedman Foundation, long-time supporters of the school.
