Alumna Donna Thorland Wins Prestigious Award

Donna Thorland (M.F.A. Production 2007) was among the select group of finalists to win a spot in the 18th Annual Writing Fellowship Program sponsored by Disney-ABC Television Group and their Studios, with the Writers Guild of America–West.

Thorland, who went to work after graduation as a writer’s assistant to television writer/producer Diane Ruggiero for the critically acclaimed dramaVeronica Mars, was among 14 men and women selected from more than 2,500 applicants. She joins an impressive group that numbers over 200 participants since 1990.

The industry-leading writing program gives participants the opportunity to hone their craft and jump-start their careers through intensive workshops, seminars and personalized mentoring with creative executives from ABC Entertainment Television Group, ABC Studios, Disney Channel, ABC Family and the Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production. Fellows receive a salary for a one-year period. With this phenomenal training, last year all 10 television fellows were staffed on Disney-ABC Television Group series.
